Do you ever find yourself looking at a website or app and think, “that doesn’t make sense!” or “why do I need to click that to get where I want?”

Our Designers are crucial to our projects, playing a key role in defining how each user interacts with our products and services, and that every step through every page makes sense.

We have an excellent opportunity for a student Designer to join us during their placement. Working within our talented Experience Design capability, you will help to deliver actionable user insights that help define and focus the service experience on user needs.  The Trainee Designer helps deliver an intuitive user interface by focusing on user needs and making use of recognised design guidelines and best practice.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll work closely with designers, researchers, and developers to turn user insights into actionable design or service recommendations, either in our office or on customer sites, playing a key role as part of a multi-disciplined agile team to design user focused and successful services
  • Work with other designers to define the User Interface (UI) such as layout, design patterns, and controls
  • Prioritise UI elements such as what needs to be obvious, what needs to be easy, what needs to be made possible
  • Provide rapid, light weight prototyping, flat and interactive
  • Work with user researchers to ensure the interface meets key user needs
  • Work with user researchers to design content by taking complex language and processes and making them simple to understand
  • Work with other designers to facilitate a consistent user experience
  • You will work as part of a team to communicate with a wide range of digital delivery disciplines and talent

Who you are

  • You are a student in Interaction Design, Product Design, Graphic Design, HCI/Usability or related field, and able to work in this role as part of your placement for your course.
  • You have demonstrable interest in user-centered design and can show an understanding of fundamental design concepts: such as typography, visual hierarchy, and Information Architecture
  • You can use appropriate design tools and techniques to produce deliverables such as wireframes, design scamps and prototypes (e.g. HTML, CSS, javascript, jQuery, wireframing tools, Adobe CS)
  • You are familiar with some programming languages and implementation environments, and have some understanding of the software development lifecycle from your studies or relevant work experience, and the relevance of different tools at different stages of the development lifecycles
  • You’re aware of basic design principles, and able to understand designs, and have the creativity to solve design problems
  • We are a customer focused business, so people with strong communication skills, who are professional, credible and open is a must.
  • We pride ourselves in doing our best and delivering to a high standard, so attention to detail and having a high-quality focus is definitely required.
  • You’ll have a flexible, "can do" attitude, with the ability to manage your own time and enthusiastic to learn
